Finally the answer to the Mystery Photo from Feb 8 is revealed. The image shows bunch of school children gathered out front of building that looks like it was hit by some sort of bomb.

Well in fact the structure was bombed with 3 sticks of dynamite at 10pm on March 7, 1928. The home of Pasquale Cioni at 206 Chestnut Ave was the target.

Mr. Cioni was a described in the pages of the Scranton Times as a prominent West Scranton figure and leader in political and religious circles.   Mr. Cioni told police that he had no known enemies. Police believe the blast was some sort of warning to Mr. Cioni.

Thankfully no was injured in the blast. Mr. Cioni was not home at the time of explosion. He was attending a a reception for the Most Rev. Thomas C O’Reilly, Bishop of  Scranton.  His home and the neighboring Empire Barber Supply Company were damaged in the explosion.  The front steps of the Cioni home were damaged along with damage to some of the windows in the home. The supply store sustained damage only to the front windows of the shop.

I would like to thank everyone who sent in answers. Keep playing and please share the fun of mystery photo with your friends.

Stop back on Friday for another chance to play mystery photo.
